I sell passionately because I am happy!

Srinivas Bharadwaj – Head of Sales at TestInsane

Well, I had been planning to join a start-up after the break, I had taken a break to take care of my 8 months old daughter. I shortlisted about 3 to 4 startups. The most receptive of all was Test Insane. By the way I called up a phone number mentioned on the website of Test Insane & decided to talk to someone inside the organization, the call was picked up by Santhosh Tuppad & I was amazed to talk to him from the start.

Santhosh Tuppad said, let’s meet at the coffee day & see if we can relate to each other in relevant terms. As the time passed by during the conversation (say like 2 hours or more), we were inching towards the closure of working together of not building a business empire & generating millions of revenue, but being happy in what we love to do. The conversation of course; was never that of an interview sort but on a front where we could find mutual areas of interest in achieving small goals not by creating pressure/friction, but doing things very passionately.

My experience as Head of Sales is awesome & have been able to balance professional & personal life perfectly. In fact, I need to be more thankful to Santhosh Tuppad who has created the kind of culture (not work culture) to deliver 100% when you are delivering and do not do anything when 99% fit. We never feel we are at a workplace & we do not look at time like which week of the day it is while we start to office. That’s culture (not work culture) again. We have never a lost a deal because of pricing till date & technically qualified throughout the bids we participated. I hope by god’s grace and efforts we move a forward and be happy like we are today! At the end of the day if you are not happy at workplace, you should not be working there anymore. Because you spend 30% to 40% of the lifetime before retiring from work at the workplace and definitely will show in a catastrophic way in your personal life and will kill your potential.

Shrinivas Bharadwaj – Sales Bragger at TestInsane

The gradient seems enormous in terms of learning to accelerate a start-up. The moment we were declared as the testing start-up of 2015, we started more aggressively selling our testing services. The way of approach has a lot to do with results of individuals and organizations. To be honest, it has been overwhelming to me since the time I have joined TestInsane. There were many times when we could not serve the customers. And that’s not for lack of skills, but for time constraints with multiple projects and we were happy with the decisions we made (We believe that whatever we do is out of happiness factor).

Some more bragging goes here J
I was working for couple of MNC’s that help me grow as true sales individual and I feel honoured to be up there in MNC’s, but TestInsane’s DNA/perspective lives in the fact the motivation has to be from within, typically reaching out to CEO, getting things delivered in a nimble way and decision making was real fast with respect to any deals. The time given to understand a business model, derive a new business model & delivery business in a way is truly appreciated. Test Insane is one place I remember you can reach out to anyone at any time and say, “I need to catch up right now to discuss and is well accepted with the culture”. Many people drive business and be happy, but here we derive happiness and drive business which is a unique kind of culture. Till date, we have never lost any deal by being too expensive to the customer; which we many a times state to the customer — You quote, You win. Every time a customer has asked for price quote we have given the customer options that would suit their estimates. We always told the customer we believe in a philosophy — You grow, we grow. Else there is no fun in business. The kind of flexibility you need here is overflowing in the culture & join us if you need to achieve great things by being happy.

Lastly, if you need your software to ROCK; we are here to help you with our testing services by adding value through our awesome kick-ass tests which will help you to make informed decision in terms of going live or not. We love you! More soon J

My journey to become wacky tester has begun!

While I started my career as a Tester, I thought  I wanted to be unique from others but I knew I had to go miles for that, but I didn’t lose hope. I started surfing through the web and I went  through the blogs of some famous Testers. Finally, I found someone interesting; yeah that was Mr. James Bach. I browsed his blog and found it as interesting and impressive.

On that day, I came to know there were lot of things I have to learn apart from the things what I had done so far on Testing. I was interested to learn about the new concepts in Software Testing like Rapid Software Testing,Context Driven Testing.

That was the  time I felt I was lucky I noticed the Skype ID of Satisfice INC. In addition to that, I also happen to find James Bach’s Skype ID too. I was excited and requested him to add me in his contacts and waited for the response. Yeah, finally I was connected with James Bach. I was really happy and I thought that I attained the first step of success.

Then I discussed with James about what actually Testing was? Then James explained some concepts like Mental-Model approach and Oracle-Problem solving method. James introduced me some famous Indian women Testers like Parimala Hariprasad and Smita Mishra. Not to forget that he also mentioned about Lalit Kumar Bhamare. And also he shared the articles with me which he has published. Thereafter, I decided in order to attain my uniqueness, this is the correct time that I have to go for a better team to work with which will add value to my life as a software tester.

After that, I decided to quit my job from my current company and planned to move to an start-up which will add value to my future. I discussed about this with James Bach, then he introduced me to Test Insane and spoke about Santhosh Tuppad, provided with the Skype ID of Santhosh Tuppad. I surfed about Test Insane, and then I was interested on watching their mindmapping approach and Heuristic table of testing. They gave importance to the skills of a tester and the kind of values they live by was fascinating. I decided that TestInsane was a perfect testing start-up in which I can be able to learn a lot of things that will add value to my knowledge and can explore my ideas in testing the software better.

Then immediately, I approached Santhosh Tuppad and showcased my interest in being part of Test insane and finally Santhosh Tuppad provided me an opportunity to work with TestInsane. Yeah, am an member of Test insane now I felt happy on writing this.

My first day experience was different because while entering into TestInsane itself I found out that Test insane was not like other organizations, but unique. From my first day itself I came to know a lot of new things from Santhosh Tuppad like Mind map approach and Heuristic Table of Testing, he explained with clear examples. Now, am interested in the processes of creating the mindmap approaches. I am sure that Santhosh and his team will guide me in  best way to attain my success. Working with Test insane will be the second step of my Success. I would like to mention that Santhosh Tuppad is great in thinking differently & in a unique way. And I am very much sure that TestInsane will help me become a better tester through this journey. Thanks James and Santhosh.

This was the perfect moment that I started my career with Test insane and it added the confidence in me that I will be a unique tester who provides a best Quality Assurance testing services to the software and be a freethinker with indomitable spirit.

I’m not a slave to 5 Lakhs!

A fine line differentiates ‘living’ from ‘surviving’. It’s funny how one’s life could revolve around these two words that easily make or break one’s peace of mind ‘coz they both depend merely on the choices made in life. As of today, Sandeep Hiremath a.k.a Freakish Tester at TestInsane Technologies, is living and declares that he’s not a slave to 5 lakhs!

A star software tester, an optimist and a free thinker – Sandeep Hiremath’s story would definitely  force you to reflect on whether your job is one that makes you happy or just one that makes you go on and on until one fine day you say “That’s enough, I need a break!”

Attending interviews had become a hobby of sorts for Sandeep who started off at a BPO providing technical support for Adobe and later hopped jobs between data entry and software testing while finally ending up at TestInsane, after gaining work experience for about 1.5 years. “I don’t remember there being any interview at TestInsane. I was asked 3 technical questions and then shared a casual conversation with Santhosh Tuppad (founder, TestInsane) about my likes and dislikes. Before I knew it, I was hired as an intern. Since then, life’s just been rocking!” he
recalls with a smile.

There’s a difference of worlds between working for the sake of money and working for the sake of happiness! Sandeep found his calling when, after joining TestInsane he received a call for an interview from a third party recruitment firm. Upon answering a few questions over the phone, he waited for them to get back with the result. When he finally got the call, the company (hiring for Accenture) was willing to offer him a salary of INR 5 Lakhs per annum. “When they asked me if I’d like to take it, I said ‘No’. They were shocked and asked me the reason. So, I asked them if they had any strict timings of work, if they expected the employee to abide by a particular dress code, or if they’d want me to work only from the office at all times. When their answers to all my questions were ‘Yes’, I knew then that I would never be a slave to 5 lakhs if it meant that I’d have to do the same old thing day after day and at the end just lose myself and my peace of mind. Rejecting that offer gave me the confidence to never regret having done it!”

Sandeep Hiremath

From drafting simple e-mails to clients, publishing blog posts that translate his experiences at TestInsane, writing elaborate bug reports, to leading a project; it’s a learning engagement all the time which according to Sandeep has a value higher than 5 Lakhs!

“At the end of each day, it’s about enjoying a good night’s sleep,” says Sandeep, and that’s what he gets by doing what he loves the most and working at a place that lets him be who he is – a freakish tester!

Maybe it’s not always about the money, maybe it’s not always about doing the ‘right’ thing. Sometimes it’s also about listening to what you want, exploring a little and taking a few risks. If you get lucky, you might understand what it’s like to not be a ‘slave’.

For those yet to embark on their careers, instead of using Sandeep’s story as an inspiration, take it as a lesson – that it’s not necessary you need to start the conventional way. Follow what makes you happy because it’s very easy to find a well paying job but it’s equally hard to find one that makes you fall in love with what you do!

So, here’s to TestInsane’s Freakish Tester – Sandeep Hiremath – May the spirit, the love and the rockstar in you, never die!

Please See: “To know more about Sandeep Hiremath – TestInsane’s rockstar tester, visit his blog at http://freakishtester.blogspot.in/

Its been just 1 month and it looks like 1 year of learning!

I am a newbie tester (Not so newbie at this moment because I have made significant progress in my learning) and explorer exploring many things and enjoying testing at Test Insane. Test Insane is a cool and lovely place to work because the work culture is very much unique. People working here are cool, freedom is given to me to share my ideas and thoughts and there is no seniority between people, everyone are given equal priority.

At Test Insane, I am trained by Santhosh Tuppad and Sandeep Tuppad. Both are really kind, helpful and innovative. I learn many things from them.

Santhosh Tuppad, is the Founder & Managing Director at Test Insane. He doesn’t show any ego and cares about employee’s happiness a lot. His way of training is very unique. Each thing he says will last in my brain and make me think in different ways. For instance, he used to explain about a tool that would be useful for testing an product and will ask us to practice using the tool, so it will make me think in different angles as how to use the tool effectively and find bugs.

On my second day at Test Insane. Santhosh asked me to edit my twitter profile since it was not good. I took it lightly and did not do it. One day in office Santhosh called me to his place, he asked me to login in to my Twitter

Pranav KS - Software Tester - Test Insane

account using my credential. I was wondering why? After login, he asked me about my   passion and interest. He edited the details, he also asked me to follow few testing groups such as TestManiac and “Testing circus”.  He asked me to follow ten testers a day and to read their profile. I did the same. Initially, I did not understand the importance, but as days passed by I came to know about many things related to testing by reading the blog post of experienced tester and also about many tools and tips from different testing groups. It’s helping me a lot.

Santhosh gives lots of importance to status update mail which I need to send daily. He checks for spelling mistakes, punctuation and grammatical errors in it. Initially, I used to make spelling mistake, punctuation errors. I was careless, but Santhosh used to point out my mistake in the mail and he asked me to re-send it again. So, I learned how to give proper punctuation in sentence (Who would have Wren and Martin book in Testing start-up? Well, Test Insane has it and that speaks about the seriousness of Santhosh Tuppad about communication skill). I was thinking why Santhosh is focusing so much in punctuation and spacing. But, It was all for my good. He wants other people to respect me. It also helps me a lot while Bug Reporting. If I report a bug with spelling mistakes and grammatical errors, it will create a bad impression on me from the client. Now, I am very careful while reporting the bugs in the bug tracker.

Everyone at Test Insane, appreciates me for every small thing which I do. Even if it is a small utility. They used to appreciate me and tell their views about it. This give me the confidence and the hunger to learn and do more.

Sandeep Tuppad, is the Vice President (Mobile Apps Testing) of Test Insane. He helps a lot to master test automation using Selenium. He used to give me challenges or tasks regarding automation. Instead of just learning from a book or training session. This way of practical learning will be very interesting, and also I get to know many things.  One day Sandeep gave me a task to create a utility to automate the process of checking brute-force attack vulnerability in the login form of any website. While creating this utility, I learned many things. I learned how to fetch data from excel sheet using java program, debugging a program using Eclipse etc. I used to create a part of the utility and show it to Sandeep, he used to tell me any modification required for the utility. After completing the utility, I was testing it on multiple websites. Fortunately, I found out a way to bypass the website that use CAPTCHA to prevent this test. While completing the challenges that Sandeep gives me, I got to know many things apart from Selenium.  This is how I am learning Selenium at Test Insane.

Test Insane has also given me an opportunity to attend meet-up conducted by TestManiac every month. One of the interesting meet-up I have attended is regarding, “Which is the most important quality criterion to be tested on a product?” By attending the meet-up, I got to know many things regarding testing. I also meet different people from various different companies and get a chance to listen about their testing experience and the methodology which they follow.

BugIT is a platform launched by Test Insane for internal purpose where testers can practice testing and report bugs which will eventually become huge database of bugs which will help newbie testers like me to learn better. It helps me a lot to stay alert and think as a tester even while browsing website and it also gives me confidence when I find a bug.

Test Insane apps help me a lot while testing. For example: Software Testing MindMaps repository is too awesome! Each mindmap in the repository of Test Insane apps is very useful. I was testing a file upload feature in a website. A mind map regarding file upload testing was very useful. Creating a mindmap before testing a product will be very helpful. Since we can keep track of all the features we have tested in a product and also our brains thinks in a connective way, so it makes it easy to remember.

My first month experience with Test Insane was cool, I learned many things and I also created my first utility. Looking forward to create more utilities that may be helpful for testing community and make great impact in Test Insane. I thank Santhosh Tuppad for giving me the opportunity.

SOFTWARE TESTING COMMUNITY CONTRIBUTION – 2014 HIGHLIGHTS

We started our journey during April 2014 and we went through lots of changes in the way we were working due to whatsoever reasons. There were boring days and at the end of the day there is no sense of accomplishment after sitting at office for 8 hours and doing something which did not make us happy. Some people joined our team initially and they left us for good. There were non-technical problems and I never wanted to spend time on non-technical part more compared to technical part of running a tech start-up. The good thing is, I always fixed the problems right-away and instructed the team to do focus on technical things, innovation and more while I take care of things that are under my control. Thereafter, we knew what we had to do collectively as a team and rock the Software Testing space.

No projects, NO BIG DEAL!

We did not have projects for many months, maybe time was the answer. Instead of cribbing about “we are not getting projects”, we said, “FUCK, let us start with some in-house projects and then started to brainstorm“. We started feeling happy and awesome about that time we spend at our startup. An idea hit us and that was, “How about open-source / freeware for software testers around the globe?” And we were like, “That’s kick-ass stuff!” Let us do it. Our rock-star developers started working on building open source apps and then we started to release them under MIT license. We do not like * (conditions apply) when its open-source / free.

Our team-members & contributors

We kick-started our journey with our first utility developed in python and that was HCE (HTML parser / HTML comment extractor). It was developed by our C, Python, and Java programmer Sandeep Tuppad. He loves neat code and with his support, we were able to release our first utility as open-source on web.

Test Insane - Software Testing Community Contribution 2014 and 2015

Test Insane – Software Testing Community Contribution 2014 and 2015

Later, it was a surprise when our rock-star developer Karthik Kini (The C# and the Web guy) developed RTE (RestFul Test Endpoints) and said, “Hey Santhosh, here is something I have developed and we can offer as micro-service to the world which could help developers / testers to test”. And I was like, “INSANE”.

And the BIG thing of 2014 was on the way and that was an idea about “Developing software testing mind-maps and uploading them on our own platform of mind-maps repository”. Karthik Kini being the Web Guy was agile in developing the platform and then we invited / requested testers around the world to contribute. Today, we have 100+ mind-maps and 16+ contributors who develop the testing mind-maps and then we upload them in MindMaps repository.

What’s up with 2015?

We have realized that, it is time to make MONEY now & we halt these activities it is not ONE TIME activity, but a journey where we keep contributing to the Software Testing community. The simple reason is, we love the journey of being happy in our life and contributing to the testing community in terms of open-source apps, freebies makes us feel insanely happy!

Watch out for more in 2015! We are going to explode enormously in 2015 in terms of community contribution.

Follow @testinsaneapps to keep up with the insane updates. We don’t mind if you want to follow our Facebook page as well.
