Ajay S Menon - Creative Head Of TestInsane

Ajay S Menon – Creative Head Of TestInsane

Without much ado, we wanted to interview him and publish the story here in our blog.

#1 Ajay, please share your story in your own words about “How you felt when you spoke to TestInsane about the work and how do you feel today?” Did you make a great decision back then to work with TestInsane?
I was referred to Santhosh Tuppad by someone else in my contacts. I went in with good set of mind  to TestInsane office even though it was an IT company (I mention about “though” keyword because I used to believe corporate clients who are in services industry are boring with creative designs). Most of the corporate clients require normal creatives and I unfortunately don’t like to do such creatives and therefore had mixed feelingsin terms of working with TestInsane. Nevertheless, once I communicated with Santhosh Tuppad; I realized that he needs out of the box creatives and is bored to death when he looks at boring ones like other corporate companies do.

After listening to his ideas and suggestions on the type of creatives he needed, I got enthusiasm to work along with him. Its been a year now and its hard for me to believe that time just flew by with such cool work and happiness. Personally, I am happy with 90% of work and 10% was noise due to whatsoever reasons and I take that blame on myself 😉

#2 How do you feel about “Culture” aspect of TestInsane?
Enthusiastic, Fun, Innovative, Motivational and Rocking People. Period!

#3 Where do you want to take your creative skills in the coming near future or long term?
I want to try something new always and have been doing that over a year and will keep continue doing it. Santhosh Tuppad has given me a platform to take my creatives to next creative level.

#4 Do you get bored or excited when Santhosh Tuppad speaks to you about the work? How do you feel. Would love to listen to elaborated details!
Yes, I get really HIGH as he gives me enough freedom in developing creatives. To him its all about freedom and that’s the cool part & a reason for me to work with him. We both are insane in that way!

#5 Would you always love to work with TestInsane which will help TestInsane to go to the newer heights in terms of happiness?
YES, YES & YES! As long as he believes that my work is awesome, I will be proud to be working for TestInsane as Creative Head. Anyways, when they go bad he would surely pump in energy into me to do awesome again. In that way, there is no way we would discontinue to work.

#6 What do you think is missing in most of the corporate companies with respect to creative designs? Does it seem boring to you? If yes, why?
Most of the companies hire creative designers and don’t want them to be creative J That’s unfortunate! Yes, I have less knowledge & experience and I might be wrong. Nevertheless I have faced problems during my work with the companies in my past and also even at the companies where I attended interview.

Ajay says, “I ain’t a puppet. I’m a designer who wants to make this dreadful world beautiful with my creative.”

I (Santhosh Tuppad) would like to thank Ajay S Menon for his services to Test Insane and we are expanding our business with him in terms of creative work. He just rocks and I feel great to work with him. I am proud.

QApp Beta – SOFTWARE TESTING QUIZ APP LAUNCHED – 500+ Questions

QApp Beta - Software Testing Quiz App Logo

QApp Beta – Software Testing Quiz App Logo

Before you start thinking and judging this app, I would love to say that — “THIS IS NOT A FUCKING CERTIFICATION QUIZ“. We believe that QUIZ is one of the way to learn about anything in fun way! I was thinking about quiz app for very long and finally after many years we have it here for the world. This quiz app was developed in order to help software testers learn about various testing ideas / tools / tips / tricks / people & communities and more. This is not a competition, but a learning tool where testers learn about various things and gain knowledge. I personally believe that, a tester can get to know many new things which can help him / her to test better. For instance, testers who do not know “What to search on Google?” this quiz app can be a guide where the options in the multiple choice questions will help the tester with search keywords and learn more. Isn’t this awesome? Yes, it is!

QAPP - Software Testing Quiz - by TestInsane - Made With Love

QAPP – Software Testing Quiz – by TestInsane – Made With Love

There are 500+ questions across,
Web application testing
Mobile application testing
Test Reporting
Bug Reporting
Bug Advocacy
Tools, utilities and web browser add-ons
People & communities
And more

And yes, its responsive. That means you can use it on your Android / iOS etc. devices as well.

The much more beautiful thing about this app is, the questions keep evolving across various topics which can help testers to acquire the knowledge. However, I want to be very blunt in saying that this quiz doesn’t help you to test better; you can test better only after processing the information in the quiz and implementing it in your testing activity. Without implementation & exploration, this information in the quiz app doesn’t help much.

So, what are you waiting for?

Go to http://qapp.testinsane.com/ (Made with <3)and have fun! And help us spread this by sharing this blog post on your social media pages.

WORLD CANNOT IGNORE US

Its been very short time since we started. We never thought that world would start loving us and hating us for what we are doing. We have lovers and haters around the world. Yes, we say that in very much BOLD way. Many people around us doubted us, they thought we are foolish and stupid enough to be running a startup like Test Insane. We thank our lovers and haters both, because you motivate us and you push to our limits in terms of contributing to the Software Testing world and community. And every time you push us to reach the limits, we say —

FUCK, let’s increase our limits to do more insanely fucking awesome.

Many people told us, “Run your startup in this way and you can make more money”. And I was like, “I did not start Test Insane along with my cool team members to chase money, I know why I started!” We are here to shake the brains of Software Testing community with our work. If we wanted to make MONEY, we wouldn’t have chosen our PASSION; but anything else which could be our cash cow. HELL with the MONEY, we are here for a REASON and that REASON is “BEING HAPPY BY DOING WHAT WE LOVE TO” and that’s our vision. We love simple things in life and we wanted a simple vision. People laughed at us for the kind of vision we had, but that was funny for us because “It is our vision and that vision is not about people”. Period!

WHY DO WE EXIST?

  • We love to push the human race forward.
  • We want to make the lives better around us.
  • We want to give back to the testing community through our open source contribution.
  • We believe that we can do awesome when we have freedom.
  • We believe that the world is beautiful with LOVE
  • We love to share the love and that’s when we are happy!
  • We exist because we believe that we will be GREAT and we do not want to be AVERAGE!
  • We exist because it is not ONLY about Testing for us, it is about LIVING to the FULLEST!
  • Because there is so much sloppy testing in this world that only knows to make MONEY!
  • We exist because TECHNOLOGY seduces us.
  • We believe that there are no game changers, but game creators. We are here to create.
  • We exist because of the simple reason that WE EXIST and WE SHOUT LOUDER.

In short, world cannot ignore us no matter they love us or hate us. Because we are UNSTOPPABLE in terms of great work which we do. We are not just doers, but enablers.

SOFTWARE TESTING COMMUNITY CONTRIBUTION – 2014 HIGHLIGHTS

We started our journey during April 2014 and we went through lots of changes in the way we were working due to whatsoever reasons. There were boring days and at the end of the day there is no sense of accomplishment after sitting at office for 8 hours and doing something which did not make us happy. Some people joined our team initially and they left us for good. There were non-technical problems and I never wanted to spend time on non-technical part more compared to technical part of running a tech start-up. The good thing is, I always fixed the problems right-away and instructed the team to do focus on technical things, innovation and more while I take care of things that are under my control. Thereafter, we knew what we had to do collectively as a team and rock the Software Testing space.

No projects, NO BIG DEAL!

We did not have projects for many months, maybe time was the answer. Instead of cribbing about “we are not getting projects”, we said, “FUCK, let us start with some in-house projects and then started to brainstorm“. We started feeling happy and awesome about that time we spend at our startup. An idea hit us and that was, “How about open-source / freeware for software testers around the globe?” And we were like, “That’s kick-ass stuff!” Let us do it. Our rock-star developers started working on building open source apps and then we started to release them under MIT license. We do not like * (conditions apply) when its open-source / free.

Our team-members & contributors

We kick-started our journey with our first utility developed in python and that was HCE (HTML parser / HTML comment extractor). It was developed by our C, Python, and Java programmer Sandeep Tuppad. He loves neat code and with his support, we were able to release our first utility as open-source on web.

Test Insane - Software Testing Community Contribution 2014 and 2015

Test Insane – Software Testing Community Contribution 2014 and 2015

Later, it was a surprise when our rock-star developer Karthik Kini (The C# and the Web guy) developed RTE (RestFul Test Endpoints) and said, “Hey Santhosh, here is something I have developed and we can offer as micro-service to the world which could help developers / testers to test”. And I was like, “INSANE”.

And the BIG thing of 2014 was on the way and that was an idea about “Developing software testing mind-maps and uploading them on our own platform of mind-maps repository”. Karthik Kini being the Web Guy was agile in developing the platform and then we invited / requested testers around the world to contribute. Today, we have 100+ mind-maps and 16+ contributors who develop the testing mind-maps and then we upload them in MindMaps repository.

What’s up with 2015?

We have realized that, it is time to make MONEY now & we halt these activities it is not ONE TIME activity, but a journey where we keep contributing to the Software Testing community. The simple reason is, we love the journey of being happy in our life and contributing to the testing community in terms of open-source apps, freebies makes us feel insanely happy!

Watch out for more in 2015! We are going to explode enormously in 2015 in terms of community contribution.

Follow @testinsaneapps to keep up with the insane updates. We don’t mind if you want to follow our Facebook page as well.

Sathish Gowda switches his career from being assistant professor in Mechanical Engineering to become a better Software Tester. He is currently learning and being trained on various skills at Test Insane. Here is what he answers us when we throw various questions in-front of him. We don’t know where he will end up, but he is happy with his decision to make a switch to Software Testing. Lets enjoy the journey! We wish him all the best in his learning.

Please introduce yourself

Satish Gowda

Satish Gowda

Hi, I am Sathish Gowda from Bangalore: “Silicon Valley of India”. I have completed my graduation and post graduation in Engineering (Mechanical branch) from Visvesvaraya Technological University. My father is a Section Superdent in Police Department (Karnataka). My mother is a house-wife. I had been working as Assistant Professor in an Engineering College, from past 3 Years in Bangalore. And now, I am game for learning to test software.

Why were you interested to join Test Insane while you could have got good paying job elsewhere?
Test Insane is a place where they allow people to work with their “Freedom”. The previous educational institute where I worked, I was not allowed to work as I would have liked to and had to work always against my will (just needed to follow orders from the so called authority).

What are your hobbies?
My hobbies are: Playing Cricket, Riding my bike, Travelling, Going night – outs with my friends, Watching Hollywood Movies, Reading books about Indian history.

How do you know Software Testing is your passion?
I got introduced to the word, “Software Testing” by Santhosh Tuppad. Initially, I didn’t know until I and Santhosh were chatting in a restaurant, he was explaining me about Software Testing, (Ethical) Hacking etc. I just told him how I had been able to hack my ex-girlfriend’s e-mail account, and then he told me that I had a brain of a hacker and he questioned. “Why don’t you learn Software Testing?” And my response was “Okay let me do it.”

While we and you know money is important, do you think money can hold you back from doing what you love to?
Yes, money is important to fulfill our needs and desires. But, money can’t make me feel happy all the time. Can we take money with us whatever we have earned after we die? No! Not just the money, nothing can hold me back from doing things which makes me feel happy.

In 1 year from now, how do you see yourself as a software tester?

I want to be better Software Tester. I would like to see myself delivering talks about Testing, all over the globe across various conferences and software testing meet-ups.

What do you love about Test Insane? Is there anything that you hate about Test Insane?
The most important thing at Test Insane is there are no hard and fast rules. They provide us with complete freedom and allow us to do things we would like to do. There is no word called Hate about Test Insane in my dictionary.

How do you feel about other team members at Test Insane? How do they treat you?
In one word, if I want to tell about my team members at Test Insane, that would be “awesome”. My Team members at Test Insane are INSANE. Even though I am from different background they are always there to help me out regardless of whatever I ask.

What does your gut-feeling communicate about you leaving Test Insane? When do you plan to leave if you already have a date in mind? If not, why do you feel you will not quit Test Insane?
Leaving Test Insane? My answer is NEVER. When Test Insane has provided me with the most important thing I badly needed – Freedom. Why shall I even think of quitting?

Few words about “our Founder – Santhosh Tuppad”?
Well, I know him from a very long time. I feel positive whenever I am with him. He is a source of positive energy to me. He is a “University of Testing”. The way he talks and provides motivation to whomever he meets – it’s amazing. As I know him very well he is not behind money, he does the things whatever makes him happy. He is a person who never thinks of past or future. He just lives in present. He is a guy who follows his heart always, a pure soul.
